JAI JAGAT 2020: A WORLD MARCH FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE

Jai Jagat 2020 in Geneva will be a Major international event contributing to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030). Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, this project promotes non-violence as a global strategy for change. It is supported by the City and the Canton of Geneva, as well as several European cities including Paris.

Jai Jagat 2020

In September 2020, a march of more than 9000 km, started in the Indian capital Delhi, will reach in Geneva, international city of peace and operative center of the United Nations. Initiated by Rajagopal PV, founder of Ekta Parishad, a movement for landless peasants and vulnerable populations in India, this march aims at promoting a global development model favorable to all, leaving "no one behind". It respects and endorses the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN Agenda 2030 signed by all the states of the World in 2015. As such it presents itself as a genuine "Survival Plan for Mankind". This peaceful action was named Jai Jagat, "the victory of the world" in Hindi.

Also known in India as a "new Gandhi", Rajagopal was invited in November 2018 to the Geneva Peace Week. Inspired by the heritage of the Mahatma and the success of the marches organized by Ekta Parishad in India, he proposed non-violence as an effective strategy for peace and justice in the world. Rajagopal has also been invited to speak in the European Parliament.

Jai Jagat 2020 and Agenda 2030

After three years of negotiations, all UN Member States adopted the Agenda 2030 in September 2015, including governments, civil society and the private sector. This Agenda defines 169 targets to be reached by 2030, common to all countries, including: eradication of poverty and hunger, preservation of climate and nature, responsible production and consumption, clean energy, decent life for all, good governance...

In the face of the current challenges of the world, it is clear that the success of the SDGs relies on the active participation of civil society to lobby all institutions and pressure them into implementing theses Goals. Jai Jagat 2020 makes an innovative contribution to the SDGs: the poorest are par excellence the relevant actors of the changes needed to eradicate poverty. They must be fully associated and have their place in this world to come.

Jai Jagat 2020 and Geneva

The Jai Jagat marchers will reach Geneva on September 25, 2020, joined by thousands of others from all over Europe and beyond: Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Africa. Upon arrival and during a week, a number of events will take place to facilitate the dialogue between the marchers and both local authorities and major international institutions.

This week in Geneva will be a decisive moment for highlighting and placing the Agenda 2030 at the heart of the global debate. It will involve the concerned populations such as Indian peasants as well as those left behind in the countries crossed by the march.

Beyond the logistical aspects (welcome, accommodation, participation), the challenge is to make Jai Jagat 2020 an event of worldwidescale. It is for this purpose that the Association Jai Jagat Geneva was founded.

Association Jai Jagat Geneva

The association Jai Jagat Geneva was created on March 3, 2018. Many ideas and projects, proposed by its members, are being implemented. The association ensures the coordination of different initiatives and their realization.
