Fahed has been a fisherman for 28 years and he used to have a large boat and many workers. With the worsening situation in Gaza he now faces many challenges in meeting his family’s needs and his workers’ salaries. With a shrinking income, he replaced his large boat with a smaller one and reduced the number of his workers.
Fahd Bakr (39 years) is a fisherman from Gaza. This has been his profession for the last 28 years. Since 2007, the economic situation in Gaza gradually deteriorated affecting all sectors including fishing. Since then, fishermen have been facing several challenges that affected the income of their families and assistants. Among those challenges the reduction of fishing area up to 6 nautical miles only and the lack of fuel to operate the boats, which affected the variety and the quantity of fish he catches every day.
