What is a happy marriage?
by Akli Hadid
A happy marriage is a marriage with an interior ministry and a foreign affairs ministry. I just made that up.
If you go on a date and meet a potential mate, you probably want to figure out how often the person is using the pronoun “you.” When I was in my twenties, the main mistake I did was to look at how ambitious the potential mates were by listening to them talk about…Continue

Knee Jerk and Mosquito Bitten Reactions
“Gol’durned little Blood Sucker. I’ll get that Skeeter yet,” Sam said as he scratched at the fresh Mosquito bite on his right forearm.
“Hee-hee, they’re bad this year, alright. We went from drought…
Which coup has lost in Turkey?
I don’t think democracy ever faced such an irony as a few days ago in Turkey. A man who rules violating basic democratic rules and constantly discriminates freedom of speech was saved from a military coup that tried to overthrow him by the reaction of the people and the…Continue

When my husband passed away, my beloved daughter encouraged me to pursue my passion. But soon, I lost her too.…Continue

"In dealing with other people, we must not only be aware of what they are saying, but we must also be open to the whole tone of their being. A person’s actual words and smile represent only a small fraction of their communication. What is equally important is the quality of presence, the way he or she…Continue

pretty and plain, gay and straight, educated and unlettered, and I
am speaking to you all."…
