It takes courage to call those who would kill us, are our brothers and sisters. It takes courage to say as Gandhi did:-

"I am prepared to die, but there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill."

I want this to be a neutral meeting ground where we leave our hatreds, our pugnacious thoughts and our bitter arguments at the door. Here we meet as equals in every sense of that word. Here we meet as friends across the gaps and divisions.

Passover is about people being freed from political force but politics is the way we organize society..Some tell me my empathy for "others" is commendable but naive.
Politics does reflect our needs but also our greed. Not to be ignored but to be freed.
May we find the difficult freedom to help free others from our politics.

Lessons Learned, Lessons ignored.

When people ask how was it that Hitler could rise to power and commit genocide against the Jews without any voices domestic and international rising to the defense of the Jews in the 30’s and 40’s, we just need to see what is happening today with the Israelis and the Palestinians.

It seems that the Israelis learned a few lessons in brutality from the Nazi’ on how to terrorize and persecute an ethnic group they view as sub-human.

As an American, I am ashamed that our government supports this genocidal behaviour of Israel politically, militarily and financially. It is American money and arms that makes it possible for Israel to ghettoize the Palestinians.

When an ethnic group has been persecuted it does not mean that the persecuted group gets free license to persecute another group.

We often think of peace as the absence of war,
that if powerful countries would reduce their weapon arsenals,
we could have peace. But if we look deeply into the weapons, we see our own minds - our own prejudices, fears and ignorance.
Even if we transport all the bombs to the moon, the roots of war and the roots of bombs are still there, in our hearts and minds, and sooner or later we will make new bombs.
To work for peace is to uproot war from ourselves and from the hearts of men and women.

Premiere performance (July 12, 2012) of the Semer Label Reloaded project, directed by Alan Bern, with Lorin Sklamberg, Dan Kahn, Sasha Lurje, Fabian Schnedler, Mark Kovnatskiy, Paul Brody, Martin Lillich and Jacobus Thiele. Reinterpretations of music recorded by Hersh Lewin on the astonishing Semer Label, active in Berlin in the 1930s in the middle of Nazi period.
