Powerful art
Nadia Plesner provocative painting "Darfurnica "

On 26 February 2011 will mark the start of the genocide in Darfur for the eighth time, but who may still be up in arms about it? The Danish artist Nadia Plesner is doing it and Darfurnica "painted. It is the interpretation of the famous anti-war painting "Guernica" by Pablo Picasso - "pimped" with her lap dog and Louis Vuitton Bag. Picassos original was created in 1937 in response to the bombing of the Basque city. "Picasso had his" Guernica "painted in black and white, in the way newspapers looked back then, " said Nadia Plesner. "I use colors, flamboyant and fun to show how our media work. the bad news and the celebrity trash, all in one go" For, as the artist says: "News and Entertainment - that's today but disoriented."

"Simple Living" angry Vuitton

The company Vuitton was legally against Nadia Plesner.

In the center of their image stay a refugee boy. Nadia Plesner shows him with a lap dog and Louis Vuitton bag - in the style of Paris Hilton. Without these boys were it not for the painting. With it all started for Nadia: In 2007, she printed his picture on a t-shirt and calls it "Simple Living" - "the simple life." The company Vuitton is sour, takes legal action against Nadia - and loads it in May 2008 to talk to Paris - even threatening to her. "What happened to me there, I was shocked," says the artist. "I asked people why they do not donate money for Darfur. I always send containers of relief supplies into the country. She did not want to. Instead, they told me what happens if I sell the T-shirt. They would spread in the media false stories about me to destroy my reputation. "

Nadia stops to print the T-shirts. For her art, she finds other ways. In June 2009, she starts on a three meters high and eight meters wide screen her oil painting "Darfurnica. Your lawyer has advised her about this: A classic work of art does not violate trademark laws, he says. So Nadia grouped around the refugee boy with his Vuitton bag their own personal anti-war image. "In addition to the boy I have the famous horse in 'Guernica' reinterpreted - for the rider Dschandschwid Warrior militia that kills people in Darfur," she says.

"That's no help, these are bombs"

Talking about the genocide in Darfur, must also mention the Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir. "I have replaced the huge bull in 'Guernica' by Bashir, "says Plesner. "What shocked me most was that he bought bombers from Russia, he had them paint it white and fitted with a UN logo Consider the front.. The people in the villages see a UN plane and then come will they suddenly realized.... There is no help, the bombs are there. The sun is also available in 'Guernica' There is a light bulb in my version is the light bulb, the symbol of Petro China. This is a company that is 80 percent of oil in Sudan has. Every time the UN wanted to send reinforcements into Darfur, China has voted in the negative. Like most oil also plays a major role in this conflict. "

Gigantic: Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham on the image "Darfurnica"

Nadia painted everything she knows about Darfur: the daily rape of women and children, the indifference of the international politics. But she also paints, which in time die in the hundreds of thousands of people in Darfur, actually determines our news: the British reality star Jade Goody, the first "Big Brother" star with cancer. Her illness was followed as if it is the most important message of all. Even the Prime Minister spoke about it. It has been reported endlessly. Even Paris Hilton Plesner shows gigantic, like Victoria Beckham and Britney Spears, who shaved bald.

What has Darfur to do with us?

Plesner has recently finished working on "Darfurnica" and issued the image along with other works in a gallery in Copenhagen "Sometimes people ask me. 'What has it got to Darfur with us' I'm not sure what this means' us'. Where does the 'we'to'where does our interest? "How disturbing art can be seen Nadia Plesner has in their example Picasso: "The day on which Colin Powell has announced the invasion of Iraq, they have the 'Guernica' print that hangs in the UN building in New York, with a blue carpet imposed, "said the artist. "It is better for the cameras, they said. I think she did not want that this horror scene hangs behind him when he announces a new war. That shows to me how powerful art is."
Art scratching at the image. Shortly after our rotation Nadia has again received a letter from Louis Vuitton. The company threatened her with a heavy fine. The letter states that the brand would now forever associated with a genocide. Front of the camera reflected in Vuitton anyone. The contact person is in Asia, so the reasoning.

Guernica-Darfurnica

Darfurnica is a painted piece of history. A story about yet another man made crisis even with Rwanda and "never again" fresh in our memory. Darfurnica is also a story about greed. Killings. Rape. Children. Oil. Refugees. And a story about the media.

Darfurnica

Darfurnica by Nadia Plesner is a fantastic work/painting created during a year in the period june 20, 2009 to june 24, 2010.
Darfurnica is the exact same size as Picasso's Guernica: 350 * 776 cm..

Darfour is another fact in human history to help all of us to remember than Peace, Compassion and Love have to be our guides.

Loe and Peace and Compassion for all Beings.

I think Nadia is a great artist, a strong woman and a beautiful person. I wish her all the best.
We need more artist like her to say their word by paint or other arts..
Thank you for the post, Eva.
