SUMMARY:Addressing Complexity in Evaluation hosted by LAUCO Evaluation
  & Training in collaboration with SEVAL Swiss Evaluation Society
DESCRIPTION:The workshop will be run by Professor Patricia Rogers and 
 will take place in Berne at the Federal Office of Personnel, Eigerstra
 sse 71.\n\nMany programs and projects do not have the characteristics 
 that traditional evaluation addresses – they often do not have fixed
  objectives identified in advance, do not have agreed implementation p
 rocesses but instead need to change throughout their lifetime in respo
 nse to emerging challenges and opportunities, especially those present
 ed by a changing cast of partners and stakeholders. In recent years th
 ere has been increasing interest in applying ideas from complexity sci
 ence to evaluation to address these challenges. There have also been c
 oncerns about the practicality of doing this.\nThis two-day workshop w
 ill\n1. Outline the different aspects of complexity that evaluation mi
 ght need to address, distinguishing what is complex (emergent) from wh
 at is complicated (many component.\n2. Introduce examples of evaluatio
 ns that have used various strategies and approaches to address complex
  issues –(developmental evaluation etc.\n3. Explore workshop questio
 ns, practical problems and examples from the group.\nThe program will 
 involve a combination of presentations, discussion, and exercises. The
 re will be time to ask questions and time to apply the ideas to your o
 wn examples.\nThis practice-based workshop will equip participants wit
 h techniques to identify different aspects of complexity in their eval
 uations and how to address them.\nRegistration is now open on-line at:
