In the encounter of a lifetime, photographer Kurt Amsler meets a sperm whale only seconds after its birth.

© Kurt Amsler

Mid-morning off the island of Faial in the Azores, and the boat's radio suddenly crackles into life. A pod of six sperm whales have been spotted about 1.5km to the south-west.

The skipper reaches the spot in no time and environmentalist Kurt Amsler enters the water. He discovers that a sperm whale has given birth.

A rare and special moment...

amazing!!!  appreciate the good news, Eva.  The 'Way' has always been through procreation; the future IS our offspring, all of us... Blessed are those who see and know Sacred Love...!

Dear Eva,

Rare to see such a experience

Thanks ..

Thanks for see and enjoy dear Sohiniben.

this wondrous reflection ...is indeed a reminder of the LovingKindness we are all capable of...   even the mature tree, with its great arms inviting the world to come nest within them are shelter from whatever storms or threats there are...

Such too is our love for each other ....even while we damn the self-centered species we have long since become.

Not much more stretch to the fabric of reality.  The ground opens up... the skies weep and moan with grief...  So we shall harbor and protect the 'Mother' ...as we do the 'Child'...

Thereupon to learn the way of transformation ...and eternal Spring again.
