Yushu Snow Disaster - A Special Appeal

May 17, 2012

Neal Riordan

Breaking news:

Yushu County, Tibet.

The deadliest snowfall in over a decade has resulted in livestock mortality as high as 80% in some areas and widespread cases of frostbite.

For the majority of the Tibetans living on the plateau, yaks are not just a way of life, they are life — providing income, fuel, and sustenance. The communities' loss of their yak herds leaves them with no means to survive the spring without considerable outside support.

Fortunately, because the American Himalayan Foundation  http://www.himalayan-foundation.org/blog/114714  has been  working closely with Tibetans in Yushu for over ten years on education, health care, clean water, and most recently, earthquake relief, we are able to provide some immediate relief — with your help.

AHF is now accepting donations for snow disaster relief. 100% of these emergency gifts will go directly to help our partners in Yushu bring food and new yaks to Tibetan communities there, and, as always, are fully tax-deductible.

Please make a donation  and specify “Tibet Snow Disaster” in the “Note for AHF.” Or call us at 415.288.7245

Thank you for helping us save lives.
