This is where I got my start with Taoism, at the age of 10, with this George Harrison composition as the flip side to the "Lady Madonna" single. Juan Mascaró offered his translation of Chapter 47 in the Tao Te Ching to the earnest Beatle. The finished work is a synthesis of separate musical and lyrical traditions: Chinese philosophy, Indian classical instruments, and the Western popular sensibility that allowed for mass consumption. All the music was recorded in Bombay - sarod, shehnai, pakhavaj, tabla, bansuri bamboo flute, and harmonium. No Beatle plays on this record.
