Love for Tibet

"Never give up"

No matter what is going on
Never give up
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country
Is spent developing the mind
Instead of the heart
Be compassionate
Not just to your friends
But to everyone
Be compassionate
Work for peace
In your heart and in the world
Work for peace
And I say again
Never give up
No matter what is going on around you
Never give up.

- Poem by the Dalai Lama -

The true meaning of life

We are visitors on this planet,
We are here for ninety
Or hundred years
At the very most.
During that period,
We must try to do something good,
Something useful,
With our lives.
If you contribute to other people’s happiness,
You will find the true goal,
The true meaning of life.

- 14th Dalai Lama

There is a Tibetan saying: 'When things are difficult, then let yourself be happy.' Otherwise, if happiness is relying on others or the environment or your surroundings, it's not possible. Like an ocean, the waves always go like that but underneath, it always remains calm. So we have that ability as well. On an intellectual level, we may see things as desperate, difficult. But underneath, at the emotional level, you can keep calm.

- Tenzin Gyatso, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and the patron saint of Tibet

The Tibetan word "Lama" means the Unsurpassable Teacher. The "La" is based on quality of the realization and the "Ma" is symbolized the mother, the loving-kindness and affection that one need to have, just like a mother gives to her children.

A wonderful rendition of the Tibetan National Anthem by Kelsang Chuki Tenthong.

Imagine a person who suddenly wakes up in the hospital after an automobile accident to find that she is suffering from total amnesia. Outwardly, everything is intact: She has the same face and form, her senses and her mind are there, but she doesn’t have any idea or any trace of a memory of who she really is.

In exactly the same way, we cannot remember our true identity, our original nature. Frantically, and in real dread, we cast around and improvise another identity, one we clutch with all the desperation of someone falling continuously into an abyss. This false and ignorantly assumed identity is "ego."

Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.

Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, text in Tibetan: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."
