DOVES OF PEACE.
One of the most recognised symbols of peace is the dove.
Its origins are from the story of Noah and the Ark.
When the rains that flooded the earth stopped pouring
down, Noah sent out various birds to see if they would
bring back any sign of land to his boat.
He was anxious to begin life again on dry pasturage.
One dove eventually returned carrying an olive branch.

After World War II Pablo Picasso, was responsible for
the decisive use of the Dove of Peace : His lithograph
designed for the International Peace Congress in Paris,
1949, features the white ancestor of a new family of
Doves. since then, graphic artists have produced an
endless series of Doves of Peace in different shapes.

Looking Out of the Bars

By Stephanie Lam/Crystal of Light
April 1, 2009 at iPeace

Lying still on the floor, a Falun Dafa practitioner stares at the wall of his prison cell. Through the iron bars he can see one of the prison guards who just tortured him.

Just because he tries his best to elevate himself and become a better person, just because he tells the truth, just because he would not renounce his faith, he is put into one of the Chinese Communist Party's forced labor camps by the police, who are supposed to be going after criminals.

After being forced to produce export goods for many hours, he is beaten, shocked with high voltage electric batons, and has unknown drugs injected into his body. His blood stains the dark, suffocating cell.

Maybe it is because he is too tired, maybe it is because of the torture, or maybe it is because of the drugs--his vision blurred. The prison guard, who has turned green in his eyes, is nothing more than a shadow to him. The iron bars now look orange, and the light violet. The wall, as usual, looks grey, though he can't make out the filth on it anymore. There is something red on it--is it his imagination, or is it flowing down a little?

This man who does not have a name might be physically hurt by the torture, but his steadfast mind may never yield. No matter how intense the persecution is, coercion will not be able to change him.

Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a traditional Chinese cultivation practice that is similar Tai Chi and Yoga in the way that it consists of four exercises and a meditation. What's different is that it primarily focuses on the improvement of one's character. Defining being a good person as one being truthful, compassionate (benevolent), and forbearing (tolerant), the Falun Gong believes that if one doesn't improve his/her character and become more virtuous, doing the exercises would be of no use.

The practice grew very quickly as many people benefited from it both physically and mentally. In 1998, a government survey estimated that there were 70-100 million people practicing Falun Gong, as opposed to only 60 million Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members. In July, 1999, the Chinese government began persecuting Falun Gong under the then president Jiang Zimen's order.

Many practitioners are detained, and they are subjected to various forms of torture as an attempt to make them renounce their faith. Many died as a result of the persecution, including young children and the elderly.

The CCP uses a implication system in the persecution of Falun Gong. If one is arrested for practicing and speaking up for Falun Gong, his/her family and work unit (company) will be affected. As a result, the practitioners would not disclose their information, and since they don't have an identity, they are more likely to be mistreated as no one knows of their whereabouts and no one can speak up for them.
