7 April World Health Day 2018

World Health Day 2018 is a unique opportunity for UHC2030 partners to  engage in mobilizing high-level attention and amplify the movement to accelerate progress towards universal health coverage (UHC). UHC2030 will support this campaign and provide various advocacy materials for our partners.

In WHO’s 70th anniversary year, World Health Day will focus on “Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere” - ensuring that everyone, everywhere can access essential quality health services without facing financial hardship.

Making and sustaining progress towards UHC requires strong and sustained political commitment. Throughout this 70th anniversary year, WHO is calling on world leaders to live up to the pledges they made when they agreed the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 and to commit to concrete actions to advance #HealthForAll.

Through a series of events in 2018, starting on World Health Day, WHO aims to inspire, motivate and guide UHC stakeholders to make commitments towards UHC:

  • Inspire—by highlighting policy-makers’ power to transform the health of their nation and inviting them to drive policy change.
  • Motivate—by sharing examples of how countries are already progressing towards UHC and encourage others to find their own path.
  • Guide—by providing tools for conversations and structured policy dialogue on how to advance UHC domestically or supporting such efforts in other countries.

The World Health Day campaign essentials (see attached English & French versions) to assist you in your communication and policy advocacy are available in six languages on the WHO website. Further materials for the campaign will be available soon, including social media squares, micro videos, a public service announcement and stories from countries that have taken steps towards UHC. If you are interested in engaging or participating in a country or regional specific campaign, please contact the WHO country or regional office in your country or region.

As part of the UHC2030 Framework for Advocates, UHC2030 has developed the UHC Advocacy Guide 2018 and UHC Social Media Toolkit 2018 targeting key advocacy milestones in 2018. In addition to the  International UHC Day (December 12), such milestones include the UHC Financing Forum (April 19-20), the World Health Assembly (May 21-26), UN General Assembly (September 18-30) and various national elections.

We hope that our advocacy materials will be useful for your efforts to advance UHC both globally and locally.
