'Global peacefulness of the world'

Iceland has been officially named the most peaceful place on the planet – and not for the first time. According to the annual Global Peace Index, which was published this week, the island nation is still the most peaceful country in the world – a position it's held since 2008.

Sørvágsvatn seen from Trælanípan, Vágar, Faroe Islands.

Sørvágsvatn or Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. It is situated on the island of Vágar between the municipalities of Sørvágur and Vágar.

The lake is located very close to the ocean, but its surface is about 40 metres above the level of sea. It is surrounded by a higher cliff which prevents it from emptying fully into the ocean, the waterfall Bøsdalafossur being the outlet. The greater height of the cliffs on either side of Bøsdalafossur can give the illusion from certain perspectives that the lake is higher above sea level than it is.

Lake Matheson is a small glacial lake in South Westland, New Zealand, near the township of Fox Glacier. It was a traditional mahinga kai (food-gathering place) for local Māori. An easy walking track circles the lake, which is famous for its reflected views of Aoraki / Mount Cook and Mount Tasman.

    Elephant Rock in New Zealand

Part of an iconic rock formation in Taranaki, known as Elephant Rock, has collapsed, with the elephant's 'trunk' completely wiped out.

The rock in the shape of an elephant is located near the Three Sisters in Tongaporutu, which is about an hour's drive north from New Plymouth.

"The whole trunk and the head has fallen off, so now we've got essentially a staple shape without a trunk, so it's not Elephant Rock anymore."

"The Kaikōura quake was very severe, so that could account for shaking the rock loose."

"It's quite devastating that this has happened."
