Dharma is life. Life is dharma. Dharma is good life. Good life is Dharma. Goodness has unlimited breadth and depth. It includes generosity, which counters stinginess. It includes integrity, which counters dishonesty. It includes tolerance, which counters anger. It includes perseverance, which counters laziness. It includes concentration, which counters distraction. Lastly, it includes wisdom, which counters ignorance towards what is real, and what is not real. These practices are all included in karuṇā. We are all deluded and thus mistake who we really are. This mistake creates tremendous trauma every day, trying to protect this false sense of self, and aggressively pushing back against perceived threats to this false sense of self. We make a habit of taking things personally, getting hurt by words, and creating our own drama filled with anxiety, fear, suspicion, and even paranoia. This is all due to the mistaken sense of who we are. Goodness counters the false sense of self and its domino effect with all the traumas that follow. So, be good, practice karuṇā! Emaho!
