Peace for the Soul

A common space for harmonic peacemakers

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who helped end apartheid in South Africa, has passed today at the age of 90.

Archbishop Tutu was a shining example of compassion, love and peace. May his graciousness and humanitarian works live on in the minds and hearts of all those who advocate for peace in the world.

His Excellence Desmond Tutu gone to his pure land of Jesus on this Christmas, with his rainbow nation in his pure mind. Great auspicious omen for his last journey. Sad day for this world, as he left us without one of the Nobel Peace price, one of the greatest hearts, one of the best friends of His Holiness Dalai Lama.

May he Rest In Peace!

Saddened by the news that a bright light of joy has left his human body. An inspiration and guide to us all.

May you have a precious human rebirth and guide us with your love and compassion. And once again be an example of kindness.

“God is not upset that Gandhi was not a Christian, because God is not a Christian!
All of God's children and their different faiths help us to realize the immensity of God.”

In honoring his passing, may we be guided by Desmond Tutu’s wise, loving heart…

"God’s dream is that you and I and all of us will realize that we are family, that we are made for togetherness, for goodness, and for compassion.”

My heartfelt sympathies to the Archbishop Tutu family, and all South Africans. He was a great and compassionate man. I will never forget his warm welcome to the Gandhi Legacy Tour participants, his hearty laughter and his endearing embrace. He was a gem of a person and will live in the hearts of all peace loving people. May his soul rest in peace!

Condolences in Response to the Death of Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India, December 26, 2021 - Immediately on being informed that his “respected elder spiritual brother and good friend” Archbishop Desmond Tutu had passed away, His Holiness the Dalai Lama composed a letter to the Archbishop’s daughter, Rev. Mpho Tutu.

“Please accept my heartfelt condolences,” he wrote, “and convey the same to your mother and other members of your family. I pray for him.

“As you know, over the years, your father and I enjoyed an enduring friendship. I remember the many occasions we spent time together, including the week here at Dharamsala in 2015 when we were able to share our thoughts on how to increase peace and joy in the world. The friendship and the spiritual bond between us was something we cherished.

“Archbishop Desmond Tutu was entirely dedicated to serving his brothers and sisters for the greater common good. He was a true humanitarian and a committed advocate of human rights. His work for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was an inspiration for others around the world.

“With his passing away, we have lost a great man, who lived a truly meaningful life. He was devoted to the service of others, especially those who are least fortunate. I am convinced the best tribute we can pay him and keep his spirit alive is to do as he did and constantly look to see how we too can be of help to others.”

Dalai Lama
