The Path is You (Thich Nhat Hanh)
That path is you.
That is why it will never tire of waiting.
Whether it is covered with red dust,
autumn leaves,
or icy snow,
come back to the path.
You will be like the tree of life.
Your leaves, trunk, branches
and the blossoms of your soul
will be fresh and beautiful
once you enter the practice of Earth Touching.
Thank you Rosmarie. With my kidney ailments this may be very helpful.
One of these 'mindfulness tools' I specially like is the 'scanning' of our body from the head to the feet, each part, each organ with the 'ray' of loving mindfulness.
This can also be used for a part or organ of the body which needs special support for healing. For example: "Breathing in I am aware of my eyes - Breathing out I smile to my eyes." Thich Nhat Hanh describes that simple technique very well in the video: "Awakening the Heart" (08/2011).
These simple, loving mindfulness 'tools' are all the more precious as they can really be practiced every where in our own way and be helpful for everyone. -
Indeed.
You're welcome - I would pass many Thanks on to Thich Nhat Hanh who gives us these beautiful tools. -
Yes, I agree Katja.
It's very beautiful. Love and compassion.
Thank you Rosmarie. This is a good thing to practice. I will practice it today.
Smiling as a Practice
In the exercise "Breathing in, I smile", you may ask: Why should I smile when there is no joy in me? The answer to that is: Smiling is a practice. There are over two hundred muscles in your face. When you are angry or fearful, these muscles tense up. The tension in these muscles creates a feeling of hardness. If you know how to breathe in and produce a smile, however, the tension will disappear - it is what I call "mouth yoga". Make smiling an exercise. Just breath in and smile - the tension will disappear and you will feel much better.
There are times when joy produces a smile. There are also times when a smile causes relaxation, calm and joy. I do not wait until there is joy in me to smile; joy will come later.
Sometimes when I am alone, I practice smiling to myself. I do this to be kind to myself, to take good care of myself, to love myself. I know that if I cannot take care of myself, I cannot take care of anyone else.
Being compassionate to yourself is a very important practice. When you are tired, angry or in despair, you should know how to go back to yourself and take care of your tiredness, your anger and your despair. That is why we practice smiling, mindful walking and breathing and mindful eating.
