Seven Deadly Myths is an Israeli story but the themes it explores are universal. As the Israeli anthologist Hanan Hever writes, all routes to understanding this conflict run through 1948. This film is a documentation of this. It began as an attempt to understand the concept of knowing and not knowing at the same time. When Lia Tarachansky, a journalist with The Real News Network returns to the settlement she grew up in, in the occupied Palestinian Territories, she discovers, as though for the first time, that it is surrounded by Palestinian villages. In this film she interviews veterans of the 1948 war, the result of which was the mass displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, the birth of the Palestinian refugee problem, and the birth of the state of Israel. The displacement that began 63 years ago and led to the demolition of hundreds of Palestinian villages continues today as the Palestinian people continue to be uprooted from their ancestral lands, closed behind walls and fences, and made invisible behind layers of denial.
