Peace for the Soul

A common space for harmonic peacemakers

Chapter 2, Verse 66

“Those who do not feel connected

With the Supreme Self

Cannot have steady minds.

How can they meditate?

Without meditation,

Where is peace?”

Swami Nikhilananda:

“True happiness lies not in the thirst for objects of this world, but in the restraint of the senses from this mundane thirst for enjoyment.  This sort of thirst is misery indeed, because it will never be more than temporarily slaked.”

Srila Prabhupada:

“We need to engage all of the senses in the service of the higher power.  If even one of them is engaged in ego gratification we will be distracted from the path of transcendental advancement.  All of the senses are to be engaged in Krishna consciousness for that will control the mind.”

[There is an excellent description of Yoga in a book called Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert:  “…the task at hand in Yoga is to find union between our thoughts and the source of our thoughts.”  (p.121)  When this connection is maintained, one is remembering Krishna (Krishna consciousness), who is a manifested expression of the source of our thoughts and the source of everything in the universe, the personal God.]
