III: 40

[Krishna Jaya]

Chapter 3, Verse 40

 

“Rajasic desire stands firmly

In the senses and the mind,

Obscuring wisdom

And perplexing the embodied Self."

 

Paramahansa Yogananda:

 

“When the senses and the mind are wet with the waters of material desire, like water-soaked matches, they fail to produce the spark of wisdom.  When Yogis meditate deeply and dissolve perception and thought in stillness, the Sun rises from the surrounding gloom."

 

Sri Aurobindo:

 

“If you limit your search for wholeness within the framework of the senses, intellect, and mind, your efforts will be in vain.  The kinetic side of your nature is to be balanced by the quietistic.  Uplift yourself beyond this lower nature to that which is above the three Gunas.  Only when peace of soul is attained can you become capable of a free and divine action.”
