Peace for the Soul

A common space for harmonic peacemakers

Chapter 6, Verse 29

"Mature in Yoga,
Impartial everywhere they look,
Seeing themselves in all beings
And all beings in themselves:
The vision of harmony,
A vision which is ever One."

Sri Eknath Easwaran:

There is a story in The Mahabharata about a man named Dharmaputra who arrives at the gates of heaven with his dog. He identifies himself and gives his address, names of family members, and so forth. The gatekeeper checks everything in his notebook and tells Dharmaputra that everything is in order except... "Do you see that sign over there?" Dharmaputra turns in the direction that the gatekeeper is pointing and sees the sign, which says, "No dogs." The gatekeeper then tells him that he is free to enter, but that he'll have to leave the dog behind. Without a moment's deliberation, Dharmaputra says, "I'm staying with my dog," who is then immediately revealed as Krishna in disguise.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi:

The glory of this verse transcends conceptual thinking. It lays open to human vision the inexpressible Lord of the Universe. It is verses like these that has prompted people to call the Gita the "Milk" of the Upanishads, the Song of God.
