[Krishna Jaya]

Chapter 5, Verse 12

 

"The resolute in Yoga

Surrender results and gain perfect peace.

The irresolute, attached to results,

Are bound by what they do."

 

Sri Eknath Easwaran:

 

"We never know if we are going to get a brick or a bouquet.  If we knew for certain it would be a brick, there would be no anxiety.  We would just say, 'Throw it and be done with it.'  For those who carry the Lord in their hearts, however, it is all the same whether it is brick or bouquet, praise or censure, success or defeat.  These will neither intoxicate nor discourage.  This resoluteness and faith will enable us to work in complete security, free from tension, agitation, and fear of defeat.  Those with this attitude are always at peace, because they are free from anxiety about results."

 

Srila Prabhupada

"The difference between a person in Krishna consciousness and a person in bodily consciousness is that the former is attached to Krishna whereas the latter is attached to the results of activity. The cause of anxiety about results can be understood to be a consequence of one's functioning under the influence of dualistic thinking. In Krishna consciousness there is no duality. All that exists is experienced as a product of Krishna's energy. This is the secret of Krishna consciousness. The realization that there is no existence outside of Krishna is the platform of peace and fearlessness."

 

Swami Shivananda:

 

"Those in harmony who do actions for the sake of the higher power without expectation of the fruit merge into the peace born of devotion.  But the unbalanced who are led by desire and who are attached to the fruits of their actions and who say, 'I have done such and such an action and will get such and such a fruit,' are firmly bound."

 

[Less bound is one who feels, "I have done such and such an action and will give the fruit, whatever it may be, to the higher power." Less bound still is one who feels, "I have done no actions at all but am only a vessel of the higher power."

Lip service doesn't work. You really have to feel it to make it real.]
