A common space for harmonic peacemakers
THE TIBETAN PHOTO PROJECT EXPANDING THE VOICE OF THE TIBETAN COMMUNITY IN EXILE THROUGH THEIR FILMS AND PHOTOS..
The Tibetan Photo Project began in 2000 when founders Joe Mickey and Sazzy Varga sent a recyclable camera to a monk living in exile at the Tibetan colony at Mungod in southern India. From those first photos by Jamyang Norbu, The Tibetan Photo Project has evolved into two traveling exhibits created by Centenary and Antioch Colleges and Universities, slideshows, lectures, DVDs and film screenings. The 2010 goal for The Tibetan Photo Project is to establish The Tibetan Photo Project Film Maker Education Centers in the Tibetan communities in Dharamsala, Delhi and southern India. Ultimately, The Tibetan Photo Project will be turned over entirely to the Tibetans to continue to grow their voice and generate income for the emerging Tibetan film makers, photographers and the Tibetan community.
Recognizing that there is much that we can learn from the Tibetans:
The goal of The Tibetan Photo Project is to provide the tools and technical education in photography to create a voice from the films and photos by Tibetans.
While there have been thousands of great visual works documenting the Tibetans, most have been from the perspective of the Western eye.
The Tibetan Photo Project is working to present the Tibetans' own perspective through the Website, exhibits, films, DVDs and other visual programs created from their own photographic work or by film and photo efforts directed by Tibetans.
The Tibetan Photo Project has received a donation of photos in the form of original negatives from an expedition into Tibet.
These rare 1932 photos provide glimpse of Tibet before China's invasion. Click on the link for more information on these rare 1932 photos of Tibet http://www.tibetanphotoproject.com/GALLERY4.html
