I Have Found

As a Peacemaker I struggle with the concepts
of what it is we do, what it is we represent
and how we go about our business.
But I have found some things are set in stone,

I have found the end does not justify the means
the means must always be compatible with the end.
If we want peace we must seek peaceful ways to it.
There is no room within my heart for revenge, fire or hate.

I have found that I do not permit others to commit violence on my behalf,
I am indeed prepared to die for others and for the cause of peace
but I will never ever find a cause for which I can kill.

I have found love in places they said there was none
because I went offering only friendship and myself,
and I have found rejection in the very places I expected love,
among those that said they stood for love but didn't.

I have found comfort from strangers that I didn't know,
who are moved by simple acts of forgiveness and love
when they might have expected an anger I never showed
for deeds done by those blinded by their own anger.

I have found a world ready for our message of Peace
hungry for human compassion, respect and caring;
a world ready for the change that is coming with us
and all because we refuse to hate those that hate us.

Be The Change

Dear Mr Gandhi, did you really say
that we have to become the change
that we want within the world?

Dear Mr Gandhi, your saying is so hard.
Can I really do it, this monumental thing:
and change the entire world?

Dear Mr Gandhi, what is it you ask;
for me to leave my comfort behind
and walk the dry dusty roads?

Dear Mr Gandhi, do you really mean,
my insignificant voice can be heard
and force the world to change?

Dear Mr Gandhi, I wish I had courage,
for then this task that lies ahead,
wouldn’t frighten me so.

Then Dear Mr Gandhi turned and smiled,
“Is this little task so hard…
You won’t be alone.”

Peace for Sale?

I get so much spam these days
peace is for sale wrapped up
buy this book, buy this candle.
Instant peace is for sale on the net
just your money and you can have
peace like you never dreamed.
But it dissolves like your account
when we wake and find that
Real Peace was there within us
waiting all the time.

My Stand for Peace

If I really cared for peace
And stood for what I believe
Where would I have been
When the trains left for Auschwitz?

Where was I as Stalin purged
Or when his tyranny ruled
Where was I as the barriers
Like the Berlin Walls were built?

If I believed in peace
Would I stand with Rachel Corrie?
Or stop the oppression in Darfur
Or call a stop to Guantanamo?

So Where was I all this time?
So full of my peace imaginings
I will tell you where I was
I was here, trying not to see.

I looked away as the trains left
What was that to do with me?
I did not stand with dear Gaza
It was nothing to do with me.

I said nothing as they bombed Iraq
It was nothing to do with me
I did not see those orange overalls
They were nothing to do with me.

And all this time they murdered
And tortured, and bombed and shot
for my country, in my name,
as my brothers suffered and died.

So if I really cared for peace
Where would I stand today?

We are the Peace

Without words the world is dumb
without hope the world is numb
we have words
we have hope
We are the Peace to come.
