We cannot help but gather experience while embodied on the earth. Experience is essential to deal with the practicalities of living, such as being aware of possible dangers that might threaten the physical body. But this type of experience is not problematical, relative to the inner state of being. The difficulty is that people become attached to their experience, particularly where there have been strong emotional ties, whether painful or otherwise. The overall effect of this manifests as the attachment to the world as an enticement to keep the dream of existence alive. The true value of experience reveals itself when the practice of living the truth becomes the fundamental way of life.

One of the first questions asked when someone applies for a new job is: β€˜What is your experience in this line of work?’ Undoubtedly experience helps in securing a well-paid position with the benefits of being financially secure. But experience extracts a hidden price that is usually only seen in hindsight. Many people, although imbued with worldly experience in their particular field of expertise, often remain frustrated and unfulfilled in their personal lives. When someone becomes attached to their experience, the reciprocal psychic effect is fear; of relinquishing the past and daring to live as a spontaneous and authentic being of the earth.

The value of experience is realised when what was once compelling, and deemed necessary to define the role of the person in existence, is transcended. As someone begins to take charge of their life through being more conscious of their actions, each new experience is evaluated through a finer level of perception. What was once satisfying as an emotional feeling is now being processed through the consciousness behind the form. It is the man or woman’s state of consciousness which determines the depth of experience needed to change if necessary the direction of the life. For example, an alcoholic suddenly stops drinking, having reached a stage whereby they no longer need the experience as before. Or someone surrenders the right to defend their emotional negativity and begins to live with greater sense of inner freedom.

No experience is needed to be creatively fulfilled. This is because everybody is born with a unique source of creativity to contribute something worthwhile for humanity. When someone loves what they do, the action is supported by virtue of the creative principle itself, which is continually being renewed. What normally happens is that, over time, the original inspiration becomes distorted by other considerations that were not there at the beginning. This is why in professions such as the arts, the most creative works are often done before success and fame impede the artistic flow of inspiration.

Living the truth is not conforming to the herd instinct to play things safe at the expense of being an original expression of life. This is why it’s so important while alive to do what is truly desired. Just like the surfer in the sea, the idea is to catch the wave of creation and merge with the dynamic flow of life.
