Peace for the Soul

A common space for harmonic peacemakers

Help Lizzy,

i wrote this poem while standing on the Street Corner about 4 Am in the City of Philadelphia. The inspiration came by way of observing a couple of young teenage girls walking the street. I asked my self why were they there. As the City began to awaken so did my realization that they were someplace they were not naturally supposed to be. They should have been home. As i began to reflect i thought about my own Teenage Daughters Myiya, Monii and Marian. This experience was very surreal for me, for they too had lost their Mother a mere 3 years ago at the penning of this Poem. I also had a glimpse of myself, in realization, for i did feel somewhat askew in my relationship and communications with them.

I implore us all to make it a point to at least attempt to understand the pressures of being a teenager. I ask that we all try to see our world from their eyes. There are many challenges they must face because of our doing and non doing as adults. We can begin to effectuate a change simply by listening. I hear the Children of Tomorrow crying out to us. We must help all the Lizzy’s and Tommy’s, for they are the future and they are the Fruits of our Lives. Let that Fruit be “Divinely Sweet”! . . . Help Lizzy !

Help Lizzy

the Cabs were busy
and there was a girl named Lizzy
looking for a free ride
walking the streets
looking for treats
for her best friend, her mother had died

she was lost and alone
a runaway from home
and a Father she never knew
she did not understand
just what was God’s plan
neither do i, do you ?

she had lost all her hope
she was now doing dope
doing tricks to feed her vice
sometimes she would cry
and just wish she could die
yet she bore her cross like Christ

she was only fourteen
with no shoulder to lean
no Mother nor Father nor Friend
if you should see her about
be a caring soul and reach out
and bring Lizzy’s story to an end.

my Dear Friends . . . for me this Poem is about the up side of Hope . . .we all know a Lizzy or some one who can become her . . . in our own reflective humanity and the consciousness thereof we can make a difference . . . that is what i think we all do strive for in our lives . . . so, all that to say i am encouraged by you and your very presence, for i do know that in all Hum,ans resides an innate Seed of Goodness, that but needs a bit of nurturing and water . . . .

Sending you my love
