Peace for the Soul

A common space for harmonic peacemakers

What of us, salt of the Earth, the little folk, the people—no larger, no smaller, than the fragile fingerprints of God; of God who is not known as we unknown remain, oblivion-scaped in the bigness of the armored-armied, bubble bursting, bludgeoning world

To the North—Dylan, Springsteen, Paul Simon, Emmylou and… little Jackie Evancho sent to

remind us —to the South, Miguel Bose, Juanes, Marco Antonio Solis, Sasha Sokol and

she, the hipslinger of music, movement and Aphrodite who crosses borders of time, tides and tongues: Shakira!  Shakira!  Eros and

beauty are mischievous champions of happy and rebellious life.  O

voices

sing the collective souls of teeming nation-peoples and plunge the ordinary at everyday into the bloodstream rich, deep purple dream and mist of mystery, unleashing, releasing, liberating unconscious passions of countless dreamers.  Here

you many tongued and quartet-languaged union of more perfect hemispheres.  You continents-pre-Columbian, you unlost discoveries, you restorations, you treasure coffers recovering from injustice—say:

will these

muscled-miracles of

surge and struggling motion roll on unto death-repetitious, unrecognized, uncared for, unheeded more?  Or is there a healing wind set footing, lives, hurts, hopes, bundled joys, to rights; no longer lightly fingered but firmly placed within the heaven-palms of unity-democratized, and hearts of hearing, feeling and response?  Enough…

Enough!  Enough!  Enough!  Long too long have peoples of these Americas been left to suffering in our open blood to feed the snarling beast of greed, as everywhere.  Say

“Yes”

by saying “No” say

“No” where death and tyranny in main are spoken.  Sow

new dawns with new horizons.

Not empires of fallen dust, not oil ravaged sands, not colonies of commerce, not armadas, not invading profiteers, enforced by neighboring bomb and guns, not prison-farms of private enterprise where labor is bought with beads and promises, and life is cheap.  Sing

rainbows.  Sing rainbow-seeds.  O sing!

you songsters, you troubadours of true love, of movements greensward, jungles, ice, snow, of roaring rivers and summer thunderings of enraptured flowers, of soaring peaks and praying meadows and forests filled of whispered tall tales of wild desires and piety.  Sing for freedom, bread, for dignity.  Not bales of slave whipped cotton.  Not cargo ships of Caribbean rape.  Not Montezuma’s blood encrusted gold.

Swell up awake

before the waters swell to swallow us.  Stomp and

shout

before the storm-boom of Earth’s sore heartache bursts and breaks in lightning sheets, and tremors shake and rivet down and crash against us.  Sing

without race,

but in the grace of colors; dance, without borders, but flame like mortal in respect of life.  Do, do, o do, the single deed-necessity more difficult for some, most natural to all:  Stand.

Stand up and upright, stand together, hand in hand, and in the poor-pride bones of common-clay humanity—Gather, Greet, Embrace.  …She

now is among as air is, wild

with rivers’ hair  of young womanhood and he (Santana) like lover, drowned in the burning ecstasy of a village-vineyard guitar.  Rock on!  Rock

on

you Mississippi-Amazon, you Olympic-Andes, you Yukon-Yucatan, you O Canada, you Old Mexico, you post-colonial mojo, you

broken cisterns, you earthen jugs, you mended seams of morning memories.  You are the one true currency.  You are the coins of wealth and poverty.  You are the breathing souls, the salt, the freedom songs, the

touchstone gold.  Like pearls, like precious, deep sea pearls in the blessed hands of destiny.

In the Fisherman’s hands—o union of more perfect hemispheres—o harbingers, o bringers-on of change.
