The Vienna Philharmonic under Mariss Jansons ushered in the New Year in traditional fashion with the 2012 New Year's Concert at the Musikverein in Vienna. The orchestra and conductor presented compositions by the Strauss dynasty - as well as by Ziehrer, Hellmesberger, Lumbye and Tchaikovsky - not only to the audience in attendance in the Golden Hall, but also to millions of television viewers in over 70 countries worldwide.
The two polkas "Tritsch-Tratsch" and "Feuerfest" were performed in their vocal versions with the participation of the Vienna Boys' Choir.
To mark the assumption of the chairmanship of the Council of the European Union by Denmark on January 1, 2012, the "Copenhagen Steam Railway Gallop" by Hans Christian Lumbye, the Danish composer who became known as the "Strauss of the North", was performed for the first time on the New Year's Concert.
The second half of the concert opened with "Danse Diabolique", a work of virtuosity and brilliance, composed by the former first violinist, concertmaster and conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic, Joseph Hellmesberger, Jr.
The composer who employed the waltz form more often than any other of the great symphonists, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, was represented for the first time on the New Year's Concert with two compositions, "Panorama" and "Waltz", from "Sleeping Beauty."
The New Year's Concert was televised for the 54th time live from the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein by the Austrian Broadcasting Co. This year television viewers were treated to three live ballet interludes from the Upper Belvedere, performed by soloists and corps de ballet from the Vienna State Ballet.
In view of the tradition of the New Year's Concerts, which began during the Second World War, the Vienna Philharmonic performs the concert even today not only as a presentation of Viennese musical culture at the highest level, but also to send the world a New Year's greeting in the spirit of hope, friendship and peace.

Vienna Philharmonic - New Year Concert 2012.

This one is more beautiful but without Ballet and comments!

The Vienna Philharmonic (in German: Wiener Philharmoniker), founded in 1842, is an orchestra, regularly considered one of the finest in the world. The VPO is based in the Musikverein in Vienna. The members of the orchestra are chosen from the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. This process is a long one, with each musician having to prove his or her capability for a minimum of three years' playing for the Opera and Ballet. Once this is achieved the musician can then ask the Board of the Wiener Philharmoniker to consider an application for a position in the Vienna Philharmonic.

It has long been a Philharmonic tradition at the New Year to present a program consisting of the lively and at the same time nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the Johann Strauss family and its contemporaries. These concerts not only delight the audiences in the Musikverein in Vienna, but also enjoy great international popularity through the world wide television broadcast, which now reaches over 80 countries.

Originating during a dark period of Austria's history, these concerts were initially conceived for a local audience as a reminder of better times and a source of hope for the future. Today millions of people throughout the world are similarly encouraged by the light-hearted yet subtly profound character of this music, and draw joy and optimism for the New Year ahead.

It is the desire of the Philharmonic not only to provide musically definitive interpretations of the masterworks of this genre, but at the same time, as musical ambassadors of Austria, to send people all over the world a New Year's greeting in the spirit of hope, friendship and peace.
