Peace for the Soul

A common space for harmonic peacemakers

Every year, I express my best wishes for #EidAlFitr to the Muslim community around the world.

My heart is broken knowing that in Gaza, Sudan and many other places - because of conflict and hunger - so many Muslims will not be able to celebrate properly.

Eva, can you tell us more about this celebration?

I am not familiar with it and would like to know a bit more about it!

Here are short explanations and links about Ramadan and Eid Mubarak. If you want to delve deeper into these topics, you should use Google.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim year, when Muslims do not eat between the rising and setting of the sun. During Ramadan, Muslims celebrate the fact that it was in this month that God first revealed the words of the Quran to Mohammed. Fasting is important during Ramadan as Muslims believe it allows them to focus on their faith and become closer to Allah, or God.

Eid Mubarak is an Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan, the month when devout Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset. Ramadan is a time of increased worship, charity, and good deeds. Eid al-Fitr means the feast, or festival, of breaking the fast.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a holy month where Muslims refuse food and drink between dawn and sunset. This is known as fasting. The date Eid al-Fitr falls on is decided by the cycle of the Moon.
