One of the most generous blessings we can offer a fellow traveller is the gift of listening. To truly listen is to give ourselves to the unfolding of another’s soul, tending it with care, without judgment, or a need to analyse, or offer hasty advice. To listen is to hold space for what the vulnerable soul in another may need to release, sometimes through unspoken gestures, tears, joy or wounds that cannot be confined to words. When we listen in this heart-centred way, we attune to the silence between words, the pause which is like the space between breathing in and breathing out, where we are sustained solely by life itself.

Depression is a descent into heaviness and darkness that almost all of us go through in our own unique ways. It's part and parcel of what it means to be whole and fully human and alive, not an 'illness' that needs to be cured. Soul gravitates to depth and spiritual death - the mythological Underworld and 'dark night of the soul’ - where our buried treasures, lost soul fragments, and deep wounds can be found, retrieved and lovingly cared for.

Everyone has their own experiences...I think...
We are not meant to stay wounded. We are supposed to move through our tragedies and challenges and to help each other move through the many painful episodes of our lives. By remaining stuck in the power of our wounds, we block our own transformation. We overlook the greater gifts inherent in our wounds - the strength to overcome them and the lessons that we are meant to receive through them. Wounds are the means through which we enter the hearts of other people. They are meant to teach us to become compassionate and wise.

Trauma happens and harms us. But I often wonder if the worst trauma is the second wave - when your story is misbelieved, mistrusted and maligned.
May your story find safe harbour in the presence of people who will honour both your vulnerability and resilience.
