During my childhood, my family and I went on beach holidays to Cornwall. The water was cold, I remember. But it was a very memorable holiday. My mother's husband was English, and I sometimes visited her in Manchester where she lived with my siblings...

thanks for your comments Eva. and yes i like the 'cornwall is my homeland.' poem. i really feel it a lot.

there are many many very special places in our world but i am sure that everyone that visits here will never forget it. It can rain everyday for weeks in the winter and nothing happens. Some visitors cannot wait to get back to so called civilisation. I love it. The solitude, the isolation and what i can only call the vibrational emanation from the earth itself. This land is full of minerals and different different rock all mixed together. Its a natural magic. Cross the river Tamar and you leave England and enter Cornwall.

I thought maybe you'd like it!

Cornwall Is My Homeland

Cornwall is my homeland
And it will always be,
A large part of it surrounded,
Surrounded by the sea.

Cornwall is my homeland,
It’s where my roots are deep,
And this connection with my forbears,
I feel a strong desire to keep.

Cornwall is my homeland,
Of me it is a part,
For it resides within my soul
And is branded in my heart.

Cornwall is my homeland,
It’s where I will always stay,
And when my days are over,
It’s where I will surely lay.

Is Cornwall really just another English county or something far older? Long before England existed, Cornwall was a Celtic land with its own people, language, laws, saints, symbols, and global influence. From ancient tin trade and unique legal rights to rebellion, seafaring, and a revived national identity, Cornwall’s story is unlike anywhere else in Britain. In this documentary-style series, we explore how Cornwall functioned for centuries as a country within a country with its own Stannary Parliament, separate courts, recognised rights, and a culture shaped as much by the Atlantic Ocean as by the land itself. We follow Cornwall’s journey from prehistoric tin traders to medieval autonomy, from rebellion against English rule to near cultural erasure and finally to modern revival. Along the way, we uncover why Cornwall has so many places named after saints, where its black-and-white flag really comes from, and why many people here still call themselves Cornish, not English.

Thanks Desmond for a deeper insight into your homeland. Maybe I'll find something beautiful there too...
