Sleeping Glutes
With gentle, intentional movement, those sleepy glute muscles can wake up and help you move through life with ease and confidence.
Our days are often filled with long stretches of sitting — at desks, on video calls, and in front of screens. And you know what? It’s okay to sit sometimes. Life can be busy, and our bodies need rest. But even our strongest muscles, like the glutes (those wonderful powerhouses that help us stand tall, walk, and stay steady), can get a little sleepy when we sit for too long.
The wonderful thing is that your body is always ready to meet you where you are. Even if you’ve been sitting more than you’d like, it’s never too late to start getting stronger and more supported. With small, consistent movements, those sleepy muscles can wake up and help you move through life with renewed ease and confidence. It doesn’t take much. Simple actions repeated over time can create meaningful change in how you feel and move.
Here’s a simple practice you can try: Sit tall in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Squeeze your glutes (butt muscles) and hold for 5-10 seconds while breathing steadily, then release. Repeat for 10 reps. This small act of self-care is a great way to support your well-being and can strengthen your glutes as it relieves back, hip, and knee pain. There’s no need for fancy equipment or a big time commitment — just you, a chair, and a few moments of intention.
