Poem for the Panchen Lama
Today we are gathered to fast and pray,
And wonder: Where is the Panchen Lama today?
Is this young boy where he should be?
No, the Chinese have him in captivity!
He should be in school learning to lead,
Instead, he's in jail, waiting to be freed.
Why is he there? What was his crime?
Why are political prisons where he spends all his time?
The answer is simple, sad yet true,
He is a Buddhist leader, who,
Even though he was only 9 years old,
Refused to denounce the Dalai Lama as he was told.
He is just one of many to suffer this fate,
We must save Tibet before it's too late.
1.2 million Tibetans are dead!
The Land of Snows is soaked blood red.
And as if that wasn't bad enough,
There are thousands more who have it just as rough.
Many monks and nuns have been tortured, raped, and killed,
But yet, CEOs are returning from China quite thrilled.
Now that the Tibetans are out of the way,
They can make more money back in the US of A.
The vast resources and forests of Tibet are gone!
With thousands of forced sterilizations, it won't be long,
Before the Tibetans themselves are a thing of the past,
That is why we are gathered today, here to fast.
So take a few minutes out of your busy day,
And listen to what we have to say,
With your help, there's lots we can do:
Practice Selective Purchasing, write letters too,
Help repeal MFN, and send a postcard or two.
Pay attention! You haven't heard anything yet,
Those are just a few ways you can help the people in Tibet.
So join with us now, and lend us a hand,
As in one voice, together we stand,
And show the world that we all agree,
THE PANCHEN LAMA AND TIBET MUST BE FREE!!!
