Peace for the Soul

A common space for harmonic peacemakers

Aparna Sinha says, AFZAL SHAUQ IS THE EIGHTH COLOUR

One Poem

But only ten lines

No Elizabethan English

No set pattern

No iambic pentameter

Only Simple words

Words that penetrate readers’ heart and speaks of his quest of happiness and the failure after- All emotions expressed!!

Bitter truth- exposed!!

Words so powerful that leaves readers pondering over it for hours.

Such is the writings of Mr. Afzal Shauq- a poet, a thinker and a humanitarian.

I started reading Mr. Afzal Shauq’s poem only few days back….. And since then I read nothing but his writings!! As if under a spell, like his minion I kept turning pages, a poem after another, there was no stopping; I just could not stop myself from reading them! Exemplary!!

For me it’s unbelievable to deliver so deep thoughts with so simple words. I believed in wrong school- which talks of extraordinary vocabulary skills to create magic! Well its time to unlearn and get real!

Magnanimity of poet does not lie only in the quality of the poem that he composes but also in the quality of ‘human-ness’ within, and who else could justify this sentence better than poet Afzal Shauq. Enormous talent, success and popularity, still Mr Afzal Shauq talks like a friend next door! A great motivator (not only through his writings, which compel readers to look within and think beyond adumbrates of materialism, but also as a guide, a teacher). A great companion; A man with golden heart!! If you had bad experiences handling mood-swings, vainglory, pompousness (all other things related to stereotypical poet of this grade)- Its time to get real again!!- This is how a poet looks like, A true human, not only in writings but in real self. This is how a poet should be!!

I finished one of Mr. Afzal Shauq’s books today, a collection of poems- “twists of fate” My favourite poem? Considering the definition of word ‘favourite’ (favourite: adjective )

Preferred above all others and treated with partiality; "the favored child" [syn: favored]

None!! But poems that will remain in my heart forever are- Justice Demand, Martyrs of Freedom Fighters (a never before outlook!), Light and Dark, The Mirror, In The Name Of dignity, To A Flower, Who Could Sing-, Question Mark etc. oh! So many poems!!

So many thoughts will remain in my heart, as pleasant memory, as an unanswered question, as ‘ a thing of beauty’, as face of truth!

I cannot comment! There are no words that can describe the feeling of awe! Speechless-ness!! I felt it for the first time! It’s like commenting on first sighting of rainbow!!! The words cannot describe emotions within; my mind refuses to come out of that amazing world! So true yet so less explored!

I as a reader could only thank him for the gift that he has given to us.

For me too…he is the 8th color

Thanking
