for the unbeknown friend

i have spent most my life
looking for rainbows
and the Pot of Gold at it’s end
now i know for certain
the greatest treasures in life
is to have one you call friend

when i look in your eyes
i see all the colors
of your life’s highs and lows
but i want you to know
that i am here with you
no matter where your path goes

see, you make me better
than i could ever be
of that i am quite sure
for through the storms
and through all the rains
our friendship will endure

there’s something you taught me
about my self
for in you i see me
where i used to critique
and sometimes condemn
you met me at my need

now i am not sure
what you see in me
for my self i often think of
but i have this feeling
that keeps me reeling
i think it call it love

now i do know
we reap what we sow
and we are defined by our deed
so i now state my purpose
i’ll go below my surface
extract and plant love’s holy seed
