This is a very exciting time here in Dharamsala and around the world as HH the Dalai Lama approaches his 90th birthday on July 6. Today, June 30, was the celebration of HH’s 90th birthday and a short Long Life Offering Ceremony organized by the people of Dhomey Province, Amdo, Eastern Tibet. It was held at Tsuglhakhang, outside. Tsuglhakhang houses the complete teachings of the Buddha (Kangyur) and major Indian commentaries (Tengyur), as well as statues of the Shakyamuni Buddha, Guru Padmasaṃbhava, Lama Atisha, and others. The whole place is highly blessed from the teachings of HH the Dalai Lama and regular practices by the monks of Namgyal Monastery over many decades. The Dhomey people have transformed Tsuglhakhang teaching grounds into a magical Buddha field with huge thangkas of HH the Dalai Lama, carpets, exquisite Tibetan small painted tables, plush chairs, long tables to feed many thousands of people over days in three locations -- Tsuglhakhang, Kirti Monastery, and the parking lot in McLeod Ganj. The Dhomey people organized a celebration for HH’s 80th birthday when HH told them to prepare for his 90th birthday! Today the Dhomey organizing committee requested HH to live until 100 years and more. They will offer a similar gala celebration for HH’s 100th birthday. Emaho!
