A common space for harmonic peacemakers
Little John was acompanying his Dad, when he saw a shabby street kid, begging on the street. He had no shoes, was bare chested and had wounds. His rib cage showed that he was ill fed. Many adults passed him by without saying a word, but little John's eyes could not skip him.
"Dad, why is that kid dirty?"
"because he is a street kid" went his Dad.
'Why is he a street kid?", he pried on.
"I think his father might be dead".
Little John kept quiet for a long time, that his father wondered how a little kid can have a very caring heart, yet old people who can actually do something decided to just bypass the kid pretending not to see him.
"Dad", said John as he broke the silence," am sorry that you lost your Dad when you were young".
"Its ok" said his Dad, as he looked down at him, smiled and quietly drove on with pride, for having a very understanding and considerate son.
At night as they switched off lights to sleep, he was so suprised when his wife asked him why he had lied to his own son that he was once a street kid.
Moral of the story is that, the best way to understand other people's plight is by either putting your self or one of your loved ones in their shoes.
