Blue Book: Frequently Asked Questions

by Chatsugtsang Yonten Gyalpo

1. What is a Blue Book?

The Blue Book or the Tibetan Solidarity Partnership is a project of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the legitimate representative of six million Tibetans. This special initiative launched in 1996 enables friends of Tibet to make annual financial contributions to help support the various educational, cultural, developmental and humanitarian activities of the CTA. Blue Book holders receive regular updates on Tibetan issues. This is a companion project to the Green Book, a voluntary contribution program for Tibetans.

2. What is the primary objective of the Blue Book?

Blue Book seeks to reach out to friends of Tibet around the world whose support is crucial to help resolve the issue of Tibet. Tibetans are engaged in a life and death struggle to preserve its culture and restore freedom in Tibet. The funds raised are used to support over 150,000 Tibetan refugees primarily in South. By applying for a Blue Book, you are saying I care deeply about the Tibetan people and Tibet, and stand in solidarity with them.

3. Who can apply for a Blue Book?

Any 18 year old and above.

4. How can I apply for a Blue Book?

5. What is the annual Blue Book contribution?

There is no fixed contribution amount for the Blue Book. However, members are encouraged to at consider donating the equivalent of US$25 a year. Donors will receive a colorful stamp bearing the picture of different ancient Tibetan heritage sites, which can be affixed to the pages of the book as validation of your contribution. Generous donors contributing $500 or more will receive special mention and acknowledgement.

6. Where do the Blue Book contributions go?

All contributions go into the Blue Book Fund. Money from the Fund is used towards supporting various CTA projects related to education of Tibetan children, revitalizing Tibetan refugee settlements, providing healthcare and other services.

7. What are the benefits of being a Blue Book holder?

Tibetan freedom struggle is based on the principles of non-violence, truth and justice. It is thus a moral issue. By signing up for a Blue Book, you are not only expressing solidarity with these principles, but with a people and culture who are experiencing a clear threat of extinction as a result of Tibet’s occupation by China. Your holding a Blue Book means you are a member of the extended Tibetan family. You will receive regular updates, acknowledgements and the gratitude of all Tibetans.

8. Can I use the Blue Book for fundraising?

Possession of a Blue Book simply indicates that you are a Friend of Tibet. It is not an endorsement for any Tibetan-related projects that you may be involved with. We request friends to not use the book for any fundraising purposes.

9. Can I apply for a Blue Book online?
