A New Year for Tibet

Today is Losar - the first day of the Water Snake Year 2140 according to the Tibetan lunar calendar.

As we welcome a new year for Tibet, we dedicate this Losar to the resilience of the Tibetan people and to the heroes of Tibet – Shogdung, Theurang, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, Dhondup Wangchen, Jigme Guri, Jamyang Kyi, Golok Jigme, Dolma Kyab, Runggye Adak and the countless other Tibetan leaders, writers, lamas, activists and artists.

As we look to the future, we also honor the memory of every Tibetan who has given up his or her life to end China's oppression in Tibet and recommit ourselves to the goal of Tibetan freedom. Today, all of us at Students for a Free Tibet would like to wish you and your families a healthy and happy New Year.

To begin this year, please join us this Wednesday, the third day of Losar, in raising the Tibetan flag. On this day, Tibetans and Tibet supporters around the world will mark the centennial of Tibet's 1913 Proclamation of Independence.
