I am a novice - I just got started with this art in the past week. I am getting so much joy and comfort in picking up these leaves, seeds, greenery, etc. in my neighborhood. It’s like I’m really seeing it all for the first time. I appreciate the opportunity to view all of your beautiful nature art and to be able to share mine.
"Forester's House in Weissenbach II (Garden)", (1914)
Gustav Klimt
Technic: Oil on canvas
Gallery: Private collection/Neue Gallerie
(Natter no. 209)
Depicted Location: Weissenbach, Austria
Since there is a Forester's House in Weissenbach II, there must also be a number I. It is unknown which of the two Klimt painted first during the summer of 1914 in Weissenbach. He rented a house half a mile from Weissenbach because he wanted his own private space. The Flöge family, with whom he spent summers, took lodgings near Lake Attersee.
The painting depicts a serene, green landscape, with the forester’s house nestled among dense trees. Klimt uses small, precise brushstrokes to give the foliage a rich, textured quality, making the scene feel vibrant and alive. He was experimenting—something he particularly enjoyed in his landscape paintings. The artwork incorporates a hint of the pointillist technique, which can be seen in other landscapes from this period. It was first exhibited in 1916 at the Berlin Secession.
