Spreading the message through music and film
About Me:
I was born in UK in 1954, first travelled to India in 1975 and have been visiting regularly ever since. I have been playing sarod since 1984, first under Gurdev Singh of London (leading disciple of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan) and then under Pt Shekhar Borkar of Pune. I began performing in the Osho Commune in Pune in the early 1990’s and this lead to ten fusion CD releases on www.newearthrecords.com.
My most notable concert was when I was invited by Sir Paul McCartney to play at his wedding to Heather Mills in Ireland in 2002. I formed the “Celtic Ragas Band” especially for this occasion and afterwards Paul was kind enough to write me a short rave about my CD ‘Celtic Ragas', and to include a track from it on his favourite songs compilation for ‘Uncut’ magazine in UK. In 2004 we played a multimedia concert at the Bhartiya Vidyapeeth Institute of Environmental Education and Research, Pune and this lead to my first film: “Concert for India's Environment”. Here, environmentally concerned schoolchildren joined us, to read their poems on nature and the film also features interviews with environmentalists and stunning images of the Indian wilderness.
2008 saw the release of my documentary film on the Himalayan NGO ‘Avani’, and the first of my many ‘Smiles from off the Road” shorts (now combined as the 18-minute ‘Smiles From Off the Road in India”). Numerous other awareness-raising shorts feature on my YouTube channel.

Since 2010 I have been working with British Council, Delhi, to help spread awareness about Climate Change.

I am a great lover of the Indian wilderness and its peoples and am deeply concerned about the development pressures on them. I hope to be able to give as much back to India, my adopted country, as it has given to me these thirty-five years!
