China survivors cremate their dead

— Survivors of Wednesday's deadly earthquake in western China's Qinghai provice have begun mass cremations of the dead.

Buddhist tradition says that the dead should be left outside for vultures to eat in a so-called "sky burial", but with so many bodies to dispose of the monks have sanctioned the cremations.

Hopes of finding more survivors are fading and the rescue efforts are turning into a clean-up operation.

Over 10,000 people filled Zurich city’s largest hall Hallenstadion yesterday afternoon to hear His Holiness the Dalai Lama speak on Universal Responsibility and the Economy.
